What do you know? What do you believe?

Read the news on any given day and you will find truth as it exists in the eyes of journalists and editorial staffs. In recent years the gap between those on the right and those on the left has grown wider.

People seem to have become more passionate in their politics. In itself, this wouldn’t seem terrible, but too much of that passion is fueled by anger, mistrust and hate. Rather than put down roots at one extreme or the other and taking up arms against our seas of troubles, would it not be more productive to move toward a middle ground. Lean to the left or lean to the right and live by an axiom made famous by Spok of Vulcan: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few; or the one.”

We are by nature self-centered creatures working for our own best interests. When we put others ahead of ourselves and fight for the welfare of others we ascend to more noble pursuits than that which is merely self-serving.
